I’m not a sneaker head but I’m in love with innovation and Nike just did that with its new self-lacing basketball shoe. Sometime’s there’s innovation for innovation’s sake (yes I am referring at you Apple) and other times there is innovation that serves a legitimate function. This Nike shoe is an example of the latter not the former. In fact, I believe that its the beginning of where our functional attire adapts to our environment to serve ever greater functions.
Shoes that dynamically tighten, jackets that self-adjust between hot and cool, hats that are waterproof or breathable based on weather data, etc. The same way we have become accustomed to digital experiences that cater to our preferences, the same will happen to our physical world. Nike is definitely ahead of the curve here with his shoe. Plus that’s a damn good looking shoe!
